Your instructor uploads the sessions and you can follow them in MyEDT.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wait six months.<\/strong> First-time permit holders in car, motorcycle and works vehicle categories cannot sit the driving test until six months after the category was issued.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Apply for and take the driving test.<\/strong> &euro;85 for a car. Applications are made on MyRoadSafety and you book when the RSA emails an invitation. Not displaying them is an offence and NDLS states a fine of up to &euro;1,000 for a first offence, with 2 penalty points on payment of a fixed charge or 4 on conviction. A lower threshold of seven penalty points leading to disqualification applies to novice drivers whose first learner permit was issued on or after 1 August 2014, during the permit period and the first two years of the licence.<\/p>\n<p>The licence lasts 10 years for cars and motorcycles, 5 years for buses and trucks, and shorter terms apply with age and medical fitness.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"s4\">What it adds up to<\/h2>\n<p>The four official fees come to &euro;240. The unknown is lessons: at least 12 sessions, priced by each instructor. Anyone offering the licence for a figure of the same order and no lessons, no tests and no waiting is offering something the route does not allow. Compare it with <a href=\"\/ie\/buy-irish-driving-licence\/\">what is actually sold<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"s5\">If you already drive on a foreign licence<\/h2>\n<p>Do not start from the beginning without checking. A licence from the EU\/EEA or a recognised state can be exchanged for &euro;65.
