If you lost money or identity documents, report to the police first.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.<\/strong> Use the online system or phone. The CAFC says you can report even if you did not fall victim, and online reports can be anonymous.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>When you report, have the date, amount, payment method, the seller&#8217;s names, numbers and web addresses, and screenshots. The CAFC says reports support crime forecasting and prevention and can link crimes in Canada and abroad.<\/li>\n<li>It does not guarantee an investigation of your case or a refund. Police decide how to proceed.<\/li>\n<li>It does not replace the bank call. Dispute windows run on the bank&#8217;s clock.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"s4\">What to have ready<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The date and time, the amount and the payment method (card, transfer, cryptocurrency, gift card).<\/li>\n<li>Names, phone numbers, email addresses and web addresses the seller used, copied exactly.<\/li>\n<li>Screenshots of the advert, the chat and the payment confirmation.<\/li>\n<li>What you sent: documents, photos, a signature, a Social Insurance Number.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"s5\">If you are not sure it is a scam<\/h2>\n<p>The CAFC says you can report scams even if you did not fall victim, so a suspicious text or website is a valid report.
